2018-05-17 Matetsi River day 2

Next morning we were greeted by this beautiful, mystical view directly out from our bungalow.

On the game drive this morning we passed by the same location where yesterday we saw the hyenas and the vultures. One hyena was there, but from the carcass was not much left. The vultures had made a perfect job. Otherwise we did not observe many animals this morning, but some really beautiful scenery and impressive trees.

This group of impalas obviously enjoyed the early morning time. Several times they ran back and forth.

Later we had time to explore more of the surroundings of the lodge. We had lunch in another building and enjoyed very much the walk of a couple of minutes. Our way crossed a small river and offered some beautiful views.

Back at our bungalow we observed the hunting of “our” pied kingfisher. This time he was not alone, but had some friends with him.

We also had a small visitor in our bungalow.

The game drive this afternoon would be the last drive during this holidays. We already had many unforgettable memories and we added a few more.

We were not far from the lodge when we had to stop on the road, because there was an elephant crossing our way. Finally we stayed there for quit some time, because there was not only one elephant, but a whole big herd crossing the road. There must have been more than 60 animals of any age in this group.

Further down the road we saw this happy squirrel.

For some time we remained near a good water pond. The light was perfect for some photos with reflections. An elephant and a giraffe posed specially for us.

On the way back to the lodge we again had to stop for a group of elephants. They were heading to a nearby water hole. Sunlight was gone and photographing was very difficult. With 6400 ISO I still got an acceptable shot of that group.

We concluded the game drive with an excellent sundowner at a perfect location. Here I took this very last image of our safari.
