2019-05-03 Kalahari Plains day 3

Next morning we saw the same lion walking to the water hole close to our camp. So we all rushed to the vehicles and drove as close as we could to the water hole, making sure not to disturb the drinking lion.

The lion did not stay close to the water hole very long. He decided to go back to the bush where he had spent the night.

Luckily for us the lion decided to come back to the water hole maybe half an hour later. The sunlight was much better as was our position close to the water hole.

Then he turned around and walked back to rest in the shade

We saw him comfortably lying under a bush cleaning himself

It seems that the jackals are never far from a lion, at least here at the Kalahari Plains

Further down the road we came across a ground squirrel family

A big group of Helmeted Guineafowls crossed our way

We then returned to the camp. It was time to pack our bags and continue our safari adventure in another camp, in a completely different region of Botswana.

Below are some impressions from the Kalahari Plains Camp itself. Its located in a very remote area. There is almost no open water in the region, apart from the man made water hole in front of the main area of the camp. Even the airstrip is a little far off, so there is literally no noise in the air, just what the animals are talking to each other.

The camp offers tents with lots of room, a balcony in front of the tent and even a viewing platform one level up. The kitchen was excellent and all the people are just amazing, friendly and very knowledgeable.

The last video shows part of our way from the main area to our cabin #3
