2018-05-06 Little Kwara day 3

Next morning we decided to go back to the wild dogs, as they were still close to the camp. On the way we saw zebras in the warm light of sunrise.

In this beautiful sunlight the colors of the feathers of the roller are amazing

We continued our drive into an area we haven’t visited before.

At some time Tom stopped the car and told us to listen and see. There was a big giraffe looking constantly in one direction. There was a group of squirrels acting uncomfortably and other animals giving signals of distress.

And there were fresh lion tracks on the road. The conclusion was, a lion must still be pretty close, otherwise the animals would not act like this.

And effectively after a short search off road we saw this lioness resting in the shade of a bush.

But she didn’t stay for long at the same place. She was obviously following a group of giraffes and zebras, looking for an opportunity to hunt.

We followed her for some time. Every now and then she rested in the shade to hide and observe.

We saw also the giraffes she was after.

Finally she gave up for this time. Either the location was not promising for a successful hunt or the potential targets too alerted.

The lioness moved away from this group and found a good spot under a tree in a wide open area. The tree grows on an inactive termite hill. Laying on the ground the lioness had a perfect overview of the location while being very well hidden in the shade.

Nearby we saw this Baobab tree (and the half moon in the sky)

For us it was time now the return to the camp, prepare our bags and leave beautiful Little Kwara for another camp in the Okavango Delta.

Our cabin, the gift shop, main dining area, bar and lounge, cabin from outside, fireplace, breakfast with Elephants, map on display in the lounge

Little Kwara is beautifully located and animals in or near the camp are very frequent. Pay attention to the monkeys as they take anything they can get. Our guide Tom together with Matt as spotter formed the prefect team and thanks to their experience we had such magnificent game drives.
